The star has given the full amount of his £25,000 honor winnings to the Music Venues Trust, which operates to preserve the United Kingdom's independent music venues.

He was given the cheque on mid-October as his new release People Watching was chosen as the best record of the past year.

The musician has opted to hand the money over to the MVT, in recognition of the essential function grassroots venues had in his initial steps.

"I personally wouldn't be doing what I am doing today if it weren't for all the shows I did around the region, and elsewhere, when I was just getting going," remarked Fender. "These locations are iconic, but they are in difficulty."

From early 2023 onward, more than 150 of these locations have ceased operations – roughly 16 percent of the whole industry in the UK.

In the last year, top acts including Pulp, Coldplay, the singer Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all aided the trust in its attempts to help venues survive, by applying a small levy to their ticket costs, which goes to help smaller concert halls.

Fender also joined in, generating more than £100,000 on his recent tour to help thirty-eight local spots across England, Scotland, and Wales.

The donation helped locations that were confronting imminent closure due to challenges stemming from floods, blazes and bereavements, as well as regulatory hurdles, conflicts and noise complaints.

Some locations were granted monetary aid in improving amenities and technical equipment that positively impacted musicians and audiences.

"The idea that revenue from concerts in big venues backs the local stages, where it kicks off for artists like me, is just common sense," Fender has stated.

He is not the first artist to donate his award prize money to worthy causes.

Back when the band received the trophy in the mid-90s for their record their work, frontman the singer stated that the group would donate their cash to the non-profit War Child.

During 2002, rapper and singer the artist shared her prize among several organizations, like the children's charity and a charity for Sickle Cell.

"Additionally, I contributed a £1,000 to my local community centre, to their gymnastics program, because I practiced gymnastics when I was a child and they lacked updated gear," the artist explained to a publication.

In recent years, the band contributed their winnings to the community center that nurtured their act, as well as other independent music bodies.

And the 1994 recipients they contributed their winnings to a MS organization after a friend was diagnosed the disease.

"Receiving the award was ample," stated artist the singer. "The cash was the bonus but we could do without the extra, because we had the main prize. So our success impacted somebody else's life."

Recently, the trust announced it had protected several grassroots venues in the South East, by transferring them to community ownership.

One venue in that area and the other in the city were purchased under the community ownership scheme, which is funded by a national body and music fans who buy "shares" in the venues.
