Larian Studios Reveal a Latest Divinity, Declaring it Their Biggest RPG to Date

The buzz around this year's gaming ceremony was significant, particularly after host Geoff Keighley shared a puzzling photo of a desert monolith. The question is finally answered. Larian Studios is developing a completely new Divinity game.

Announced as Divinity, the game was presented with a audacious trailer that included memorable imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the literal opening of infernal gates.

A Different Direction

For those expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. Larian warned that a third Original Sin game to its venerated RPGs is not currently in development.

However, the developer described this new Divinity as a continuation of the main series. This choice of words hints that the team is likely building a faster-paced experience rather than another turn-based title. For now, this is speculation, as only a announcement clip is available.

The Legacy of Divinity

The Divinity series is highly rated and arguably it kicked off the contemporary revival of complex computer role-playing games. These games are known for rich lore, player agency, and complex character building—qualities that subsequently reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its world is familiar fare, what truly sets Divinity apart is the immense freedom given to the player.

Where many modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is packed with specialized paths that are viable with a particular class or origin with a specific history of choices.

The series is also famously permissive, allowing players to improvise both in story and combat. Virtually all objectives can be solved in diverse methods, sometimes in surprising fashion.

  • You might progress the story because you recalled something a dog told you.
  • Or, you could overcome an obstacle by using the world itself in a unorthodox way.

More to Come

It is these creative systems that allow people to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games ever made. Now, fans can get ready for a new entry in this groundbreaking franchise.
