'It's like they never miss a pass': The Swans' Galbraith renews battle with City.

Ethan Galbraith breaks into a smile as he recalls the thrilling closing stages of Swansea's epic comeback triumph against Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup. The game ended with Galbraith picking up a spectator's eyewear amid the post-goal scrum.

With the clock ticking into the 97th minute, Galbraith rattled the woodwork with a powerful effort from distance, and his teammate promptly slammed home the deflection before sprinting toward the crowd to revel in the moment, with supporters congregating around the players.

Extraordinary Turnaround

The victory capped an extraordinary recovery given the team had found themselves down 2-0 deep into the final 45 minutes. During the euphoria, there was some minor mishaps. He shared, "There was a fan trying to get our attention and myself and Keysy [Josh Key] were puzzled: 'What's he on about here?' Then we saw the glasses. It was a light-hearted moment putting them on. We are on the pitch as footballers but we're people, too, so to have a laugh with the fans is always good."

Premier League Giants

That win secured a next round game at home against Pep Guardiola's side on Wednesday, opponents Galbraith came close against at the comparable phase of the FA Cup with Leyton Orient in February. Galbraith had an excellent perspective when the underdogs took the lead in remarkable manner, with Jamie Donley's volley from about way out going in via the woodwork and the opposition keeper. It feels criminal that it was credited as an own goal.

"You would have wished they would've given it to him for attempting the shot from that far out," commented Galbraith, who started in midfield before switching to right defensive wing after Orient changed formation. That meant competing with City's winger, with whom he swapped shirts, and the player was among the opposition who complimented the way his former team approached the match.

Opponent's Class

"Physically they are very good but even the basics and basic skills, they can just do it over and over again," Galbraith says. "It seems as if they never miss a pass and they know how to manage and neutralize a game. You can believe you're holding your own and then suddenly they will just fizz a pass past your midfield without you even spotting it. You have to be focused throughout of the game. It requires a tough attitude and attention just to stay in the game."

New Chapter

The Welsh side were keen on Galbraith in January and fought off rivals to bring him in in the summer in a seven-figure transfer. He became a favorite as a crowd pleaser across multiple campaigns at his former club and has swiftly replicated that in his new home. At Orient he reunited with the coach, who previously gave Galbraith his first extended run in senior football on loan at a League One side from United. Then came a loan at lower division the Manchester club, before he departed his boyhood club.

Development Path

"I was perhaps a somewhat inexperienced going into men's football. I think many athletes would say under-23s football is completely distinct. Sometimes it seems the ball is moved without serious challenge. There are limited hard challenges. Once you start playing professional matches you have to learn quickly."

National Team Success

He has shown that growth for club and country, shining for Northern Ireland, who remain in contention for the international competition next summer via the knockout phase and for whom he has been selected in the past five games, including two matches games against a football powerhouse. The ex-coach, Galbraith's ex- international manager, offered the highest praise, saying he was Northern Ireland's "midfield general" given how he manipulates the ball and his eye for a game-changing assist.

Early Days

It has been a remarkable path for the kid from the neighborhood in the Belfast suburb, just outside Belfast, who was raised observing his dad, the elder Galbraith, also a central player, play for a local club.

Old Trafford Memory

The player's single match for the Red Devils came in the away trip in 2019, a continental tournament trip to the Kazakh capital, where they competed on an artificial pitch and the arena covering was closed owing to conditions of -15C. "That proved to be a lengthy journey and it was chilly," he says, grinning. "The days leading up, myself and quite a few of the young lads trained together, so that assisted our preparation. Just to travel with the first team and earn some playing time at the end was amazing."

Moving On

How difficult was it to depart Manchester United, the club he joined from Linfield aged his mid-teens? "This turned out relatively straightforward, because I arrived at the moment where I realized I couldn't establish myself at the senior squad. I'm very appreciative for the years at the club but it became apparent where I thought I needed to go my own route, drop down the leagues and play first-team games. Now I'm steadily progressing again."

New Environment

It is mid-afternoon at the team's practice facility but Galbraith has somewhere to be at late afternoon: a learner's exam, another progress toward getting on the road. Until recently to Sketty, the mid-twenties player was a frequent passenger in Swansea's dubbed player transport, a team vehicle driven by academy staff, the transport team, which shuttles players to and from practice and games.

"My companions include the Portuguese player, another squad member, Malick Yalcouyé – a former passenger used to be in it but has started driving. It's enjoyable to socialize with the guys but I'm planning to be the subsequent individual to stop using the bus and driving. His teammate is known for his humor; he's constantly causing mischief."

Supporter Connections

While playing for Leyton Orient, Galbraith would travel alongside supporters on the Tube after starting his journey at his base. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
